EVERYONE HAS THE ABILITY TO SUCCEED!
Structured teaching is an array of teaching or treatment principals and strategies, based on the understanding of and respect for the characteristics of ASD.
Human Interests/Social Development- Joint attention, reciprocity, social interaction, social perspective taking (facial expressions)
Communication- Challenges with verbal and non- verbal communication, receptive (processing time, concrete/literal), expressive, non-verbal language
Restricted Interests and Repetitive Behaviours- unusually resistant to change, over-focus interests, develop entrenched routines and lack of flexibility
Sensory Processing- Seeking or avoiding sensory experiences, difficulty modulating and integrating sensory input (pressure helps reassure where their body is)
Learning Style- Problems with attention to focus on a task, motivation to stay on task, uneven development, problems with generalization (visuals are the strongest learning modality)
Motor- Difficulty with fine motor movement and planning (may affect speech), difficulty with gross motor movement. These things cause for implications for learning, task completion and general participation
Some of our techniques we use are:
Independent learning enabled through 1:1 support allows our clients to achieve their full potential in a safe environment. They don’t slip through the cracks because we are always there to modify and accommodate to the needs and the learning style for each client of ours. We are aware of each specific behaviour that comes with someone with Autism, that we are prepared to use our techniques/structured programs to have those behaviours to a minimum.
